Some top PM challenges are

a) staying relevant with technology, trends, methods
b) being firm with process changes, time, resources, politics
c) dealing with lost resources (human or budget)
d) keeping up with change and being aware of priorities

I am curious what your top 3 or 4 challenges as a PM are?

I think most of PMs have some challenges, however this vary to the OPM maturity model which the PM work within.

1- Effective communication
(right way-right time -right message to the right people)
2- Manage emotions
3- Manage stakeholders expectation
4- Transition process to Agile.

For myself my top four challenges at the moment are:

- Remembering to communicate everything to internal stakeholders. I've tried to make it a habit that when something habits inside the company I ask myself "Who needs to know about this? What specifically do they need to be aware of?"
- Organization of projects when you have 3-4 on the go. Our company is client based so at times I am managing 1 project and at other times I could be managing 3-4 projects.
- Setting proper expectations and communicating them clearly.
- Trying to implement new processes and procedures when everyone is too busy to focus on the changes happening

Marcus,

I too agree with the challenges you've outlined above, and I have recently been faced with your fourth challenge "keeping up with change and being aware of priorities". For me, this relates to transitioning to a work-from-home structure due to COVID-19, as it has been a large change within my company and has created difficulties with response rates internally.

Other challenges I have faced in my industry are as follows:
1. Scheduling challenges/sacrifices when you have stakeholders across multiple times zones
2. Managing recurring scope changes
3. Resource scheduling due to increase in project work
