Hello @PM.com Community!

As my peer Ambassador presented earlier this month, July's theme is 'The Project Economy'.

While there are a couple of components to make up this broad term, for the sake of a conversation here, we could consider thinking about project work and execution within an organization "where you have teams of people moving between functional areas, without the boundaries of finance, HR, legal etc."

Sunil is a very articulate speaker. The world is becoming projectified because of technologies. Bill Gates recently spoke about how many developing nations are growing and becoming very successful, like China, Brazil, countries in Africa, because of technology. Sunil alludes to this in his interview from the link you provide.

Building hospitals, schools, and roads in Africa, with the projected anticipation of population growth in that continent over the next few years, brings the demand for project managers to assist with this building and expansion. This is how project managers become relevant through change, in this case, through change in technology and the economy. The world at the business level is becoming projectified, and that is the project economy. The key is understanding technology, which optimizes the way project managers work in the project economy. Leveraging big data is vital, for example, to give you insight into what a company's vision should be.

Soft skills, empathy, awareness, emotional intelligence, these are also core skills which play an even more important role today than ever before. What makes you stand out as a project manager is having these soft skills. These skills help you and your teams immensely to move between functional areas, without the boundaries of finance, HR, and legal.

Project managers are more in demand today than ever before.
