Help with Program setting up Program level reporting in the PPM system
Mitchell WilliamsEnterprise Project Management Officer| Bayside Government CouncilMelbourne, Victoria, Australia
Hi All my name is Mitchell and I am a Project Portfolio Analyst at State Government in Australia. I am reaching out to all program managers out there, I would like you help, assistance and guidance to help me with a task I need to complete in the PMO. I have being tasked to improve our PPM System maturity. Currently I am looking at how I can setup Program management from a reporting perspective. I want to start with what is required as the basics when reporting on a program and what format works best for a program level report? The PPM system we are using is Microsoft Project Online. I have already setup status reporting and was thinking of rolling everything in the status report to a program level report. However I am not clear as to what program information is valuable for the business?
Also what is the recommendation of representing the Program level finances? In other words what type of finance information is crucial when reporting on program level finances?
You need to meet with your senior stakeholders to understand THEIR informational needs before looking at configuring tools or creating data intake/update processes.
Until you have completed communications planning with them, anything you set up may or may not be what they were looking for.

What @Kiron stated above is a must. Forget about other starting point. Create an strategy before to go to them because you will face "unexpected and unplanned situations" when you go to ask them, at least in my personal experience. Saving Changes...
I see where one young boy has just passed 500 hours sitting in a treetop. There is a good deal of discussion as to what to do with a civilization that produces prodigies like that. Wouldn't it be a good idea to take his ladder away from him and leave him up there?
