During IT PM interview you are asked the following:

How do you communicate with your team?

Then the follow up question:
How do you begin to communicate when you just joined the company?

How would you respond to both questions?

1. Effectively
2. Seek first to understand, then to be understood

Seriously, these are such generic questions that the best answer would be to ask for clarification on exactly what the interviewer is looking for...

First by listening. You listen to learn about the culture of the organization, the team and its dynamics. Listening is a powerful tool in learning the best way to communicate in any organization.

If the employer is looking for PMI text book key words like pull/push formal/informal communications. How would you answer these 2 questions?

Hello Anton,

Thanks for the question.

Here is how I would answer those questions.

1. Well, first I would need to know what type of team I was working with. Is the team virtual or co-located? How diversified is the Team?

2. This has more to do with company culture, so the first thing I would do is seek out the companies policies, procedures etc. Maybe befriending senior members of your team was be a good start.

Best Wishes!
