Project Management Certification - PMP or Prince2?

I have the both certificates PMP and Prince 2. Both are good and there is some complementarity. Going back to effort required for preparation before successfully passing the exam, it seems that the PMP was more demanding and is broadly recognize.
So you will need to plan accordingly based on the goal and your availability.

It depends. I would say "PMP", however, PRINCE2 may be more demanding in Europ.

I've heard that even in Australia, where Prince2 has traditionally been more commonplace, PMP is gaining in more popularity there, because of the Agile component. So, if Australia is on your radar for opportunities abroad, this is also something to look into.

While I have done both, I suggest PMP due to its in-depth detailing of the project lifecycle phases which is required for PM irrespective of the country he or she is executing.

I faced the same dilemma earlier this year but finally chose PMP path even knowing that it demanded more time and effort. In my opinion, Prince 2 entry requirements are relatively easy to meet as compare to PMP and many appears to be sitting through 5 days training and taking exam on the final day generally conducted by the same training centre - not suggesting that its any less in value but certainly less globally recognised than PMP - if you are able to sacrifice at least 3 months of good quality time for preparation then PMP is an obvious choice however if you need the certification sooner than go for Prince2.
