Hi All,

I am planning to obtain a PM certification in the next month so want to ask experienced professionals and certification holders as to which one you would recommend - PMP or Prince2?

Thanks,
Azhar.

Both are in a way different and provide different value. Of course in the UK, I hear that PRINCE2 carries more weight But on the other hand, PMP is more globally recognized.

Since you’re located in the UK, I suggest you start with the Prince 2 credential and then you can continue your journey to the PMP.

Thanks Rami.

I will do some research, although I am more inclined towards the PMP due to the global recognition.

To add to Rami's feedback, I'd suggest checking which PM certification carries more weight within Coca-Cola (assuming that is where you intend to continue to work) as well as within other companies within the same industry. In general, PRINCE2 has had more penetration in Europe given it was developed by the OGC in the U.K., but that doesn't mean that certain companies or industries might not favor the PMP and with Coke being a U.S.-based company, they might have standardized on the PMP as their de facto PM certification.

I will check internally but I am more inclined towards the PMP especially as I may be looking for opportunities abroad in the future.

I spoke to two different Prince2 and PMP holders. One working for the UN and one with the Ministry of Defense in the UK. They both said they like PMI standard better.

This two (PMP & PRINCE) are best of both worlds.

Hi
I have the both certificates PMP and Prince 2. Both are good and there is some complementarity. Going back to effort required for preparation before successfully passing the exam, it seems that the PMP was more demanding and is broadly recognize.
So you will need to plan accordingly based on the goal and your availability.

Best regards
Serge

It depends. I would say "PMP", however, PRINCE2 may be more demanding in Europ.
