I'm about to close a long project. What are your top tips for closing a project and handing it over successfully into support? Saving Changes...

Actually all the organization follows some process and activities to be followed like -
- Sign off from customer
- List down lesson learned
- List down Best practices followed on project.
- Release of resources and infrastructure
- Configuration Mgmt- all the source code and documents are properly updated.
- Audits closure- all NCR and observation are closed
- Thanks mail to all the stakeholders and appreciation mail to Team
- Most Important - Project Closure Party :-)
I can remember these only as of now , hope this helps

It's a nice question, and a very important event in any project. Therefore its has its own course of steps to complete this activity. Its important because it brings a lot of enthuse to everyone in team and organization.
A project closure gives a sense of attainment, goals and objectives set at the start have been achieved, experiences learned and shared, stakeholders(internal and external) are satisfied, and obviously a project closure party.
Some of events which i have experienced as project closure are as follows:
1. Formal closure in administrative and contract close that is also a logical end to a project by Sign-off.
2. If any support contract after UAT phase completion.
3. Transition.
4. And a new beginning ...
Thanks
Alok

Here are some of the responses I got from posting the question on Twitter as well, in case they are of use to others:
Have a party and run like the wind!
Prepare a good system operating procedure.
A Mind Mapping session with support & ops teams to identify all activities, communicate & document in closure sheet, get sign off.
I had a philosphical debate with a colleague on this subject not too long ago and in the end we agreed to disagree. I have the project closure as just that, close accounts, produce closure reports, return resources etc. However my colleague included the transition to Business-as-usual in the closure phase. I actually do this in execution as a post implementation task.
Attached is a generic transition plan to help with the handover. Saving Changes...
