Though I am interested in knowing how to identify Contingencies in IT projects only(but please feel free to share your experience in other fields also).
The important points I am trying to identify is:
- Is there a process or steps to identify contingency.
- Is Project Risk related to(or helps in planning) Contingency? If How?
- How is Risk Mitigation Plan different from Contigency Planning?
Good question, here i am trying to give a thought on contingency plan and identification of first part your question. First we need to identify reasons for contingencies from where it may arise and which may have multiple reasons it may right from beginning of the project or at any stage in the project, and definitely we need to think on the lines of PM triangle i.e. cost, time and scope which leads to contingencies. If one of them is stretching then other two will be skewed. Based on this one can prepare a checklist of items for contingency plan to be made during the execution course of any project.
