I have been a proj manager for 3-4 yrs now. But my job till now has been managing a team that does same kind of work. Iam a technicaly enthusiat person and like to guide and consult preople technically. I do that today. The work in Mircosoft project really makes me bored.

I'v rcently got on offer from a product company to be Sr.Technical Lead.

In their orgnizartion the Sr. Technical Lead is equivalent to project Manager but on Tech carrer path. The band is same for both. The role has resposibility of consulting multiple projects and attending some seminars and conference in techincal area.I would also be supporting sales team
to an extent.

Is it woth to join this offer?? One side I like this role that would give really varied exposure than what I have been upto.
But I fear on other side what would happen to my career in general, will be coming downwards in long run ? What would be my oppertunites in future say for the next job ?
Whay would you suggest ?
As a long run I would want to freelance consulitng at very later stage of my career. I am in India.

Hi

Are you ready to step outside your comfort zone! this is the question otherwise you would not be asking. You are bored, same teamwork probably your current position does not offer the advancement to take you to the next level. The opportunity sounds good, it will allow you to apply your knowledge and skill-sets and provide the platform for you to acquire new technical skills. A step at a time, if you go for this new job and this is what you want to do, freelance consultancy could be reachable. You must decide, good luck.

My advice is to imagine the two scenarios having occurred at different points in time.

Ask yourself where you want to be 2 years, 5 years, 10 years from now.

Consider if you took the job. What is your job like 6 months from now? 2, 5, 10 years from now?

Now consider you stayed where you are. Ask the same questions and answer them honestly.

No one knows the future, but this exercise will get you thinking about the possibilities and what really makes you happy and goes towards achieving your long-term goals.

Hope that helps!
