I'm new to my position as a PM and am in search of apps that'll enable me to create a project portfolio and manage it effectively. I have started using SharePoint Online to create one, however, my options to provide a true picture about the status of our projects are limited. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you!

What is your industry? What PM methodology are you using? What are your requirements (expectations) to portfolio management tool?
How many projects belong to your portfolio? What constraints (resource, financing, supplies, space) exist in your projects and portfolio?

Today we are using Clarity and we are migrating to Azure DevOps because we are in the process to use SAFe for managing all our portfolio including it IT and non IT initiatives. But "best" is the tool that best fit for your defined portfolio management process.

There are hundreds of products providing PPM capabilities so I'd recommend starting by understanding which PPM processes you want automated, the specific information needs of your stakeholders, and the relative PPM/PM maturity of your organization and then map that against what's available.

Gartner regularly publishes analysis reports on PPM tools so you may wish to get the latest report and see who are the thought leaders in this space.

agree with Kiron.

First be clear about the processes, roles and expectations of management, project managers and other stakeholders.

For this stage, excel should be sufficient. Limit yourself to simple targets, and do not overwhelm your project managers.

I implemented portfolio mgmt with the primary benefit of increased visibility in an organization with 500 projects a year. We started with 50 key projects, because this gave enough data to make good decisions.

Hi Zelekha,

We at https://icotechservices.co.uk deliver PPM solutions that are completely tailored to your needs. We are a Microsoft implementation partner and can configure a custom PowerApp that is perfectly suited to your organisation. We have recently done this for a number of Private Sector companies, as well as some key areas of the UK Government (all remotely).

Please contact me to discuss how we can help.

Thanks,
Mitch
