I have several credentials (CPA, CPU, CGMA) along with PMP that require continuing professional education. Compared to the other services that offer webinars for continuing professional education, I can say,without exaggeration, that PMI lags far behind in the IT presentation performance. Over the past several months, the number of Project Management webinars that have experienced technical difficulties, several of which had to be cancelled, mid-stream, are unacceptable. Often blamed on Webex, I would note that other services I use rarely, if ever, experience technical issues. During these past months, I have sent emails to the PMI president alerting him to these issues. I still await his response. I often wonder what, if any, preparation PMI and the presenters have before their presentation dates to anticipate or avoid these technical issues. Rather than expect a response, I would propose that our annual dues be broken out in a segment to reflect solely membership and another segment attributed to any costs associated with PMI offered webinars so that members can pursue only membership and pursue other more reliable sources for PMP continuing education. I've delivered three webinars for this community and haven't had any performance issues. There was a fair bit of practice time provided a day or so before to work out any technical glitches in the process.
There are certain limitations on what the current infrastructure (WebEx + this community platform) will support and there was a project underway to refresh/enhance the current platform which may have addressed these issues but thanks to Covid, work on it has slowed down from what I understand.
