Hello Ashish,

Congratulations of your PMP certification. Are you planning to search for a job after-moving to US or is it you have already applied or selected companies?

Let me know. I have had a similar transition before.

Thank you Amrapali, I'm planning to search for a job after moving to the US. I'm moving on family based immigration and there is a waiting period of 3-4 months before the work permit comes through. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ashish,

I had quit my job and moved to UK but then with this situation it is difficult to get a job. US scenario would be different but I highly suggest you do your homework.

Hi Ashish,

Congratulations for achieving your PMP and also on the moved to the US.

It is not an easy time to be looking for a job since many good PMs are also on the market. You may face the "no local experience" challenge.

It is important to build and promote your personal brand to help your resume stand out.

What unique skills and experiences can you add to your personal brand?

Hi Mr. Wan-Phek,
Thank you. I'm expected to move in July 2021. I have following set of skills;

Technical - 3D modelling, NDT, & Simulation
Software - AUTOCAD, ANSYS, Primavera P6, MSP, & MS office products
Soft Skills - Workshop facilitation, business analysis, & complex contract management

I have a plan B - I started photography as a hobby but after practicing it for more than 10 years I developed good skills in photography and conducted various seminars for camera companies.

I also have a plan C - My in laws have a small business where I may use my skills to expand the business.

I'm keeping plan B & C as options because I am aware of the job market in the current economy. Do let me know your views / suggestions. Thanks again!

Hi Ashish,

You sure have a good set of skills for PM. I would add photography as a hobby on your resume, start developing a portfolio and showcase an amazing photo on your LinkedIn profile.

Although it is challenging to find a job during the current situation, the future of project management is bright. In the Future of Jobs Report published by the World Economic Forum, Project Managers is listed as #11 in top jobs in increasing demand over the next five years. Hello Ashish,
Congrats in your PMP and visa. Just for your info, I have a few friends that their visas were delayed more than one year, so, as Amrapali recommended, start your preparation and good luck.

Hi Wan,
I'm deeply sorry for I didn't notice the question in your response regarding my job search.

I'm still formulating my strategy. In the next 30 days I'll have my VISA (if approved) in my hands so I can start applying for jobs as soon as I get it. I have a few ideas on my mind.

1. Get in touch with my college alumni who are working in the US and try to get reference
2. Seek help from PMI Central Virginia chapter members
3. Apply to jobs posted in PMI job board

Let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions for me to improve my chance of landing a good job.
