Hello, I graduated last year with a MS in Project Management. This is actually my second masters, the first being in Organizational Management. However, I really want to be in PM but did not realize it was so difficult to get my foot in the door. It seems virtually impossible to get in unless you have 10 or more years of experience. How can I better position myself to get into the field since I don't have a lot of experience? Would it even be worth taking the CAPM exam if I can't even get my foot in the door? This inquiring mind really needs to know.

Do your homework before sending your resume. Too often once resumes get into a company's system and are not acted upon, a second submission never gets even into the system.

Someone earlier said attend local PMI chapter meetings where you can network.

Scout out how organizations position project management. Some organizations have huge project management departments, which makes entry easier as they can afford to take entry level project managers.

Good luck.

Welcome to PM Kimberly,

My 2 cents...
Standing on the shore wont do any good, get your hands dirty read case studies, engage in discussions, attend conferences, sharing experineces with PM peers, going for CAPM etc would help you to set your foot in ...
