Hi everyone, I was given the task to check the effective functioning of teams with the leaders of individual teams. Don't you have any proven tips or procedures on how to proceed in this task? It seems to me that there is a very thin line between control and streamlining, and I would not like to cross it. Tips for any literature are also welcome!

First, I would like to draw your attention to the point that there is a difference between "efficiency" and "effectiveness". Which one is your concern?
Second, the next step can be defining some KPIs for the team's functions, efficiency and/or effectiveness.

Dear Abolfazl, thanks for your reply. I would like to focus more on efficiency than effectiveness. Do you have any examples, which KPIs should be observed in team'S performance?

You may wish to investigate Kanban as a method for improving team delivery and team morale. David Anderson's book on the method would be a key reference.

Hi Gabriela,
Without more details, I am guessing that you are referring to agile teams. In which case, the team velocity would be an indicator. Happy to provide more input if you are not in an agile environment.

Hi Gabriela,

comparing teams can be a daunting tasks, as leaders would like their team to be best, they will be in different stages of the Tuckman ladder, will be charged to produce different outputs, their composition will be from by chance to by carefully selection and the skillset.

You could evaluate team attributes like a team morale index thru surveys, or asses them using the tribal leadership stages by David Logan, or use an analysis tool like Perflo, or look at their diversity using the 7 HUMM temperaments.

You might consider a survey to have the team members assess their own teams. If you just check only with the team leaders, you will get a biased self evaluation of their own leadership ability. If you check with the performers, they will likely reveal the things they see limiting their own efficiency, some of which may be their team leaders.

The only way is to understand the difference between to have a group and to have a team. With the definition on hand you will be able to take the next step which is to work on defining if a problem is in place or not.
