Will they still be there? Principles are good, but so is process.

Joshua -

The PMBOK Framework won't disappear - only from the Seventh Edition of the PMBOK Guide. However, you can still see it referenced in Standards Plus and in other PMI standards & practice guides.

PMBOK Seventh Edition will have Process-based standards, but mainly will be built around a set of statements of fundamental principles. They aim to capture and summarize broadly agreed approaches to best practice within core areas.

First of all, nobody knows how the Seventh Edition will be no matter the videos you can see. The Seventh Edition will have the same structure than the PMP Content Outline document. Content Outline was there from long time ago and to read and understand it is the key to pass the exam. On the other side, the PMBOK is a Guide and no more than that. In my more than 30 years of work as portfolio/program/project managers I just took the things that applies to the initiative or the organization I am working for. At the end, is a matter of structure/architecture because if the current structure is maintained then the standards are quit impossible to maintain in the future. Nothing new.

Joshua, I agree with your thoughts on the processes. My PMP is recent while I've been involved with projects for years. For me, the process structure put my experience in order and added helpful theory to either run a project or review others.

Both Sergio and Kiron made good points.
