Hello all, I am relitively new to project management and I am looking to expand my experience outside of my current role at work & also outside of education.
Are there any excersises that you would recommend to add into daily life? Maybe something to change the train of thought and to open the mind to looking outside the box and think like a project manager.

Just to comment, from years I have performed conferences around the world mainly inside the PMI World Tour about some topics but mainly about each person in this world is performing project management from the time day wake up to the time they go to bed. So, the same you do in your personal life is the same you do, with other degree of formality, in your work life. For example, a classic: time management. There are multiple examples of that. But the more inspirational for me is Watts Humphrey which derivated in he created the PSP (Personal Software Process).

Why not apply what you are learning to small, personal projects? That's a good way to understand how to tailor your approach to fit the needs of a given project...

You are welcome. I just wrote about me trying to put an example about I firmly believe that project management is easy but some people make it hard to practice. The point is, between other things, it demands look at oneself to detect those things that almost unconsciously each of us transfer to the profession,

I have two pieces of advise for any new PM

1) Try to gain a basic understanding of the field for the type of projects you want to manage. If you want to work in software, try to learn some basic coding. If you want to work in construction, learn about the regulations of it. It's a lot easier to manage a project with industry knowledge

2) Think like a PM - many things are projects. Your own development is a project if you want to obtain a certification. Think of it in PM terms for schedule, cost, etc.
