Favorite Method of Remote Team Communication?

linkedin twitter facebook   Communications Management
Now that we're all remote (for the time being at least) what do you feel is your favorite method of team communication? Do you think nothing beats email - are you big into slack? I'm curious what different teams are using now that being co-located is off the table

While it can't beat true face-to-face communication, wherever I need to get body language & tone cues, I'd go with Zoom/WebEx or something similar.

But you always need to pick the right medium for the message. If I want to collaboratively decide or design something, Miro or similar tools would be my go to choice...

Hi Kiron,

This is a good assessment, I like using video for that reason but it can be overused by some teams - particulalry in instances where the issue isn't that complex

I was in a company which used Skype for Business for a long time. That was really good for both chat and video calls. After that I moved to a company which relied on Zoom, which is great for video calls, presentations and chats but isn't really that integrated.

Right now I'm working with Microsoft Teams which I thought was going to be just another Skype/Zoom clone but I am finding it to be really intuitive. The fact that video calls, presentations, chats, scheduling, file sharing and team groups can all be used together just makes it a really versatile platform. However, I think if you are going to use Teams it is something you need to go all in on.

We are using email and teams. As shared by many, these are not a substitute for face2face communication. So, I visit office one in a week. For project based communication we use Wrench SmartProject

That's an excellent question, Susan!
Engagement is critical for project success when you are leading remote teams. I've covered this as one of the seven tips in my recent projectmanagement.com webinars titled "People-Centred Leadership for the New Normal." You can find it in my profile.
While several tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex and GoTo meetings exist, I prefer a tool that allows easy set-up and execution of break-out rooms. This goes a long way to make sure is everyone is engaged and is able to contribute to meetings.
