I'm looking for a good cost effective online course to prepare myself for PMP certification. Any recommendations?

I took the "PMP Certification Bootcamp" from PMTraining.com and have recommended it to others. Looks like it's about $350 for the online course. I passed the exam so it's either a good program or I'm lucky... maybe both?

NOTE: The exam is changing in 2021, so if you're going to do this... start now and take the exam before year-end!

Hi Troy. Thanks for your response. Wondering how long you spent preparing for the exam in total including the class. Looks like I would have to move pretty fast to get it done before the end of this year.

I would suggest a combination of the Joseph Phillips PMP Prep Seminar on Udemy and Rita's PMP book. Also, have a copy of the PMBOK so you can reference and read up on things that you feel you need more clarification on. Then find a bunch of practice exams online and keep practicing. You can pay some or find some free ones, it's just about getting in the mindset.

Tamara,
Thanks very much for your response. I was skeptical of UDEMY simply because it is super inexpensive. It is only $9.95, so I figured it might not be so good. I've seen other online classes that cost $600 or more! Did you take this course for yourself and can vouch for it?

Thanks,

Jeff

there are so many options, but I think iZENBRIDGE is also good, which help me a lot in passing the PMP exam.

Assuming no distractions during this predominately WFH/ school-from-home environment if there are others in your household, treat it like work. Knock out the online training in 5 days while reading along in the PMBOK. Take practice tests (as many as you can), review your weaker areas indicated by your test results, memorize the quick reference guide/ study guides for the next ~5 days. So, TWO WEEKS total if you really focus and dedicate the time. Please don't skip on the practice tests. Getting used to how the questions and answers are presented (i.e., lots of situational formats) will drive ~50% of your success.

Hi Jeffrey,

I used that course and just passed my exam yesterday! But will say it is completely based on the PMBOK so good to get your foundations, and understand the different concepts. It has a quiz after each section which immediately tests your understanding that can be useful. At the end you have a practice exam. I would say it is good for the understanding but you need a bit more than that to pass, however it is much quicker than going through the book (I play it also on 1.5x speed for maximum efficiency). I also like the resources (you get a cheat sheet, all the presentation slides, bunch of stuff you can use when not watching or just for a review) plus you can download to your phone which might be useful for on the go/when you don't have internet! The low price is normal for Udemy but I think it's mostly because they make money off of the quantity of people who take it which will always be greater than someone's website. You can always check the reviews as well to see how you feel but I like Udemy in general as it is inexpensive and has licensed trainers who make good programmes, especially because they can be reviewed so if a course is bad, you'd know.

Then you can go to a couple resources to connect these concepts to real life examples (e.g. Rita Mulcahy book is great for tips for the exam as well as situational questions) and then do some free tests to get practice in.

I think the course you need will depend on your general knowledge. In a sense that half the concepts in the book you should already know most likely either through work or previous education (I studied economics for bachelors, and business for masters so all the business concepts I was familiar with). If that is the case then these inexpensive courses can be a good refresher + teach you some new concepts, without taking a lot of time (I really don't need a whole day lecture on how risk management works for example).

Good luck!
