So our legal division is looking for a lightweight "project" management software that is web based that has an iphone app. I say "project" in quotes in that they are really looking for a task manager, as their "projects" are 10 tasks total.
They're not thrilled with our archaic version of Sharepoint as an option, and just trading spreadsheets isn't feasible either.
iPhone is somewhat of a nice to have, but the Chief Counsel has an iPhone and wants it, so I'd like to see if that was out there.
Has anyone had experience and recommendations with any tools?
Any thoughts are appreciated. Saving Changes...

I don't know about iPhone apps, but have you (or they) considered using Google Docs? It sounds as if you aren't after a fully functional project management tool, so maybe something like a shared spreadsheet would be adequate. Saving Changes...
I don't know of any tools that have that, however you should look at sites that list software (like Buissy.com, Capterra and Web-based-software.com). I know Buissy.com has just started and doesn't have very good search capabilities yet, but Capterra has a very good way for searching specific functionalities for software. Web-based-software has a nice GUI, but the search capabilities are not that good. Saving Changes...

Hey Chip -
I've been looking for a similar web based project management tool that has mobile PM capability. I've been playing with http://www.liquidplanner.com and its is one heck of a nifty application.
From a collaboration perspective, it has a similar Facebook "social media" news feature and in my opinion it has a stronger scheduling engine than Microsoft Project.
(and I'm a huge fan on Microsoft Project so that takes a lot for me to say)
Their iPhone app is useful too as it includes a lot of notifications and an easy to use interface. Since you projects are smaller in nature and are task based, I'd recommend you give it a try.
It may sound a bit odd but using this tool has actually made scheduling and project execution...fun!
Email me and I can send you a few article reviews I wrote for Tech Republic and Gantthead about the applications collaborative planning features. Or just let me know if you want me to post them here.
Hey chip,
I am using proofhub since 2 years and it is available for iphone . It has amazing features like milestones, to-do's and discussions. You can try it for free with its 30 days trial period. Saving Changes...

Big fan of both Trello and Asana for more "pick a date" project management. Once the organization gets larger project's you'll want to scale a bit more and start predicting end dates. This is where LiquidPlanner plays very nicely.
Here is a blog post I wrote about both Trello and Asana:
You can try proofhub (www.proofhub.com) as it is compatible to any screen resolution, thus you don't have to install any app on phone. I being a freelancer have tried many but I find it very easy to use on both PC and mobile. Saving Changes...
