Many engineering reviews are carried out during an engineering project performance from the initial conceptual definitions up to the final documents issued for construction (IFC) and as-built phases.
Some of those reviews are performed by personnel within the Engineering Firm, others include client’s representatives, and some are carried out by people from other engineering, safety and regulatory organizations external to the engineering company doing the work performed. Those external reviews are performed by engineers not directly involved in the engineering design effort.
Engineering reviews are joint reviews of engineering drawings, documents and other deliverables produced along the engineering project development and the work performed to produce those deliverables.
Those reviews normally include not only the Engineering Design personnel from the Engineering company working in the projects but also client’s representatives including people from the Operations, Maintenance, Project and other departments from the client.
MAIN ENGINEERING REVIEWS
Among the many engineering reviews to be done along the project’s engineering phases, the following are some of the more frequently performed:
• PFD
• P&ID
• Plot Plan
• Key Plan
• Piping Layouts
• Equipment Layouts
• Design
• 3D Model
• Quality Control Plan
• General Design
• Shut Down Key/Cause & Effect
• Peers
• Cold Eye
• Life Cycle Value Assessment
• Engineering Work by Others

Other engineering reviews worth mentioning are:
? HAZOP/SIL
? HAZID/What-if
? Constructability
? Noise & Vibration
? Chemical Hazards
? Wind Chill Assessment
? Human Factor/Human Machine Interface Analyses
? Total Risk Assessment
? Inter Disciplines Check

Not all engineering reviews need to be performed in each and every project. The type, size, complexity of the projects as well as client’s requirements are the factors to be taken into account at the time to decide which specific reviews are to be included and based on that whether only projects stake holders need to be represented in each review type session, and whether the participation of parties external to the projects need to be included as well as which ones are more fit to the review purpose regarding their size, whether should they be specialists or generalists type of engineering, HSE, QA/QC, companies.

I really wish people would define their acronyms. I understand that some prefer to appear knowledgeable or as experts by assuming/suggesting that all persons reading their material should know what they are talking about. Not always the case. Please be advised that you are severely limiting the response to your postings and comments by this approach. Also, acronyms can mean different things to different people. A case in point, see below for listings of PMO. (The Free Dictionary by Farlex [Google it]
