Hi Daniele,

Are you looking for basic task management or more robust project management including a gantt chart?

Best,

Hi Daniele,

Have you thought of something like Dropbox?

It's a file sharing tool that will allow everyone collaborate online and sync files automatically. It also means you can just use something like Excel for your project tracking needs.

Whenever I work from home I use it to sync with my work PC, and it saves me having to e-mail or store and transport on a flash drive.

Google Docs could provide a basic spreadsheet facility for to do lists. You could use their wiki functionality for bug tracking.

There are some very good project management systems now offered as Software as a Service which is an economical way of trying them out. Have a look at Wiki for a list on PM tools http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of...gement_software and Gartner and Forrester have insights into the higher end of the market.

+1 to Elizabeth's answer - Google apps are great.

At business-docs.co.uk we use google apps to keep remote team members in the loop, and everyone working together.

For small orgs you can use it for free : http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group/index.html

Have you ever collaborated on a Google Docs spreadsheet in realtime? It 's really impressive - I've been in one while 4 other people edit it simultaneously.

Hello,

You are basically looking for Project Information System. Try Microsoft Sharepoint server.

In addition to a Google or Dropbox, look into Tom's Planner.

The best I usually find is to go to different sites where they have collections of software. The best I find are http://www.buissy.com, http://www.capterra.com and http://www.web-based-software.com.

Check out www.aceproject.com. The cloud based version is free for 5 users and 5 projects and is very reasonably priced once you need to add additional users/projects. I evaluated a dozen packages and choose this one for it's features in relation to price. If you have more money to spend and need every bell and whistle, then www.proworkflow.com is an excellent product as well. Both packages offer time tracking, but I love Harvest for time tracking and invoicing. I need to track time that I wouldn't normally enter as tasks in a PM tool, but if all your time tracking is related to tasks either Ace or PWF will do the trick.

For a wiki, I like Zoho. It's free for 3 users and 2 wikis and is super cheap to upgrade. It's simple and easy to use, unlike others I tried that were hard to configure and quiet expensive.

Now if you need remote file storage, both Ace and PWF offer that in their packages, but Egnyte offers an excellent cloud based product that even allows you to map a drive on your desktop. It has version control, desktop backups, access controls, and is very reasonable (5 super users, unlimited client access, and 150GB space for $30/mo.).

As a PM and small business owner, I spent months evaluating tools for my remote work force and we have been extremely happy with the products I've mentioned.

Hope that helps.

My two cents says use MS SharePoint.

It is a great collaboration tool.

It enables you to design standard, repeatable templates for managing multiple projects. We are in the process of implementing this solution. We are using the standard templates across the board as a start point and then tailoring to meet both business and PM needs.
