Hello All, I am preparing to take the PMP exam later this month, and I have a few questions regarding taking the online exam:

1. Does anyone know of any sites where we can practice using the online calculator? I've read that the exam calculator is not interact-able with a keyboard so we need to be able to use the mouse for it.
2. Does anyone have advice for using the whiteboard to complete a brain dump? I can imagine using a mouse to write equations may be difficult, so I am wondering if it's best to practice this so I can dump everything once the exam starts, or if it's really needed. Also, how often did you end up using the whiteboard?
3. Does anyone have any best practices or advice for exam time management? I've read there is a scheduled 10-min break after the 90th question, and this is in addition to the 240 exam minutes. Any best practices on how long that first 90-question chunk should take? and the second 110 chunk? I've read a few different perspectives but I'd like to see what has worked for others here.

Thanks so much to all who have been posting. I've been reading best practices every day to help me prepare and it has been so useful!

Hi Angie,

you may practice using the whiteboard and calculator on Pearson VUE website here is the link: https://home.pearsonvue.com/Standalone-pages/Whiteboard.aspx
I have done my online exam 2 days ago. I used the whiteboard one time only to draw a critical path. Don't worry about the calculator, it's very easy to use and most of the time you will calculate using your mind.
you try to practice 200 questions full exams. the first 90 questions it depends on both of you and the exam itself.
All the best with your exam!

Hi Mohamed, thank you for the feedback. It sounds like most people don't need to use the whiteboard so much, so that is reassuring.

Thank you!!

Hi Angie,
1. Calculator is not that difficult to use. Don't worry.
2. Based on my exam experience, brain dumping is not needed. I didn't do that.
3. The experience will vary from people to people when it comes to speed of taking exam questions. I was able to complete first 89 questions in 70 mins. From my point of view you should not worry about this. If on an average you are able to answer each question in 60-80 seconds, this is ok.
All the best for your exam :)

Hi Nagaraj,

Thank you! This is reassuring feedback, so I feel a little better about preparation for the exam. I think one thing I am trying to improve on is taking less time on questions. I get nervous and re-read questions often, so hopefully some deep breaths will help me focus and stay on the 60-80 second per question timeframe!

Hi Angie,
Great to note that you are very positive about facing the exams... You will make it...
Make an effort to spend a max of 1min 20sec per question... but do all to answer all 200 questions

Good feedback from my fellow PM’s:

1) I personally don’t think using the Calculator will be a big deal as the amount of calculation questions is very minimal.

2) I don’t recommend brain dump. It will stress you and confuse you in case you forgot anything that you really might not need during the exam.

3) Practice on PM PrepCast simulation questions.

4) I think the sections are timed so when you finish the first, you get 10 min break then you come back for second part, however, you can’t go back and review previous part.

Good Luck with your exam.

Hi RK, thank you kindly. The feedback is reassuring. I've been taking the PM Prepcast simulations and am actually taking my 4th one this weekend. I've been getting passing scores with each attempt so I hope after all this exam advice (and additional studying) I can increase my score a little more and be ready for my exam. I've also been taking some quizzes from some other books to help prepare, but the Simulations are great.
