in your opinion did the sponsor have the right to reject a claim regarding the loss of the project raised from the covid19 disease pandemic and if yes what should the project manager do?

Yes, they have indeed. As they have to reject everything they consider to. The point is how you go to her/him to present the point. If you ask me, Covid is a risk that could be predicted because we have other scenearios like SARS for example so generally speaking if the project manager does not consider this a risk then the project manager must review the process were risks had been identified to understand why.

Moustafa, Covid-19 is different from any earlier pandemics as the way world reacted to it. It was unprecedented in the present times and it bitterly affected human race, around the globe. Many lost their lives, many lost their livelihood. Hence in my opinion , force majeure clause of contract may be applied.
But again like with any other claim or variation in Project, the claim should be thoroughly investigated and justified.
