What are the ethical behaviors you observed being demonstrated this year and how would you like to see them in 2021

With the end of the year around the corner, it’s time to reflect effectively on a year that’s been anything but normal. However, looking at the positive - it’s the year of compassion, resilience, adopting and adapting and a year that put us all to the test. What are the ethical behaviors you observed being demonstrated by yourself, your organization and your teams this year? And how would you like to see them in 2021? Share your story (examples could include, compassion, empathy, speaking up, flexibility and commitment) Saving Changes...
As an instructor, I'm not usually in situations where I would witness or personally face ethical dilemmas. However, what I did see plenty of was compassion and empathy within the virtual classes I taught for the small and large struggles which participants endured over the year.
On more than one occasion, I had a learner who was personally affected by the pandemic - either with someone close getting sick or with a job loss. More than in previous years, I found that others in the classes were quick to empathize and provide support.
I'd love to see that automatic empathy towards fellow human beings who are struggling continue.

I have observed in the last few years that the general public and office/team environment have shown a much higher level of ethical conduct than the political leaders and government structures. This is especially true in the USA. It seems the bar has been set so low that what was normal behavior is now in the superstar range. I do hope that the bar will restore/rise to historic levels within the next few years. We need to demand and expect better from our leaders. If we allow the leaders to remain in the sewage pit it won't be long before the rest of us join them.

Hi Amany
wish you a happy new year.
I observed people giving more without expecting a direct benefit. It may come because with feeling more unsecurity, we tend to invest in potential insurance. But it is also showing an increasing awareness of the ethical value of community (not yet in PMI‘s code).
I also saw signs of increasing empathy. For me empathy is a capability, not a value. It can be used both ethically and non-ethically, depending how you respond to increased sensing.
Some showed more humility, previously held certainties fade away, as we understand that we do not have control.
A deep feeling of respect came up with seeing the health workers and other low paid people take the frontline.
And a majority of people showed responsibility in following the Corona rules like distancing and wearing masks. Interestingly many show respect despite what their politial leaders may say. It shows again the big dilemmas that the ethical value of individual freedom and autonomy creates when it competes against the other ethical values like community, responsibility, humility or fairness. Happy New Year.
I’ve witnessed the devil and angle when it comes to ethics. Some showed compassion and empathy which was obvious during virtual meetings, and actions while a minority showed the “throw under the bus” attitude. However, as things moved forward, they have changed their attitude from blame to solve things together which is one thing I hope they will improve on next year.

I agree this year has brought out the best and the worst in individuals and organizations. I hope the best behaviors become habits and the worst become learning moments and bad memories never to be seen again. The behavior scale has tipped positively for the PMI Code of Ethics values, as I’ve witnessed many random acts of kindness and an abundant display of Responsibility, Respect, Fairness and Honesty. Unfortunately, and too frequently the scale has also leaned heavily toward disrespect, irresponsibility, unfairness and dishonesty. Looking inward and outward, I use the lenses of the mirror for how we see ourselves and through the window for how we see others and how we are seen. If we can treat ourself and others, with the four values of Responsibility, Respect, Fairness and Honesty in mind, we may not be able to change the world, but it can be a good start. Saving Changes...
