How do we know Fast-Tracking would not work in this scenario?

In the following scenario, I know Crashing will bring the project back on track. And that will increase the cost and risks. But why Fast-Tracking would not bring the project back on track here by performing Activities in parallel? Reason I'm asking is because Fast-Tracking would not increase the cost.

Project's cost performance index = 1.2
One deliverable is behind schedule.
If the project manager brings the project back on track, what will happen to the project?

a) Rework will result.
b) Activities will be performed in parallel
c) Costs and risks will increase
d) The scope will be revised

Fast-tracking (usually) will not cost more, but does increase risks as there was likely a good reason that activities had been planned sequentially to begin with...

Fast tracking is essentially re-working the critical path. On the assumption that the initial critical path was optimal (which is the goal of developing a critical path) than any changes to the critical path has consequences. Cost and risk increases is the consequence of fast tracking.

The first statement in the question has no influence on the answer. A 1 CPI means that so far the project is costing less than anticipated. It is not a measure of future performance although it can be used as an indicator.

Peter, does that mean Crashing is being done here. And hence (c) is a better choice for an answer?
