I am sure this has been discussed many times in the past but I am starting it again. We all know about the obvious reasons for project failures. What do people think about the intrinsic factors that contribute to project failures? A few examples like 'lack of interest'; 'lack of communication', a 'no bad news' culture etc.? Any ideas and suggestions. Saving Changes...

One biggy that keeps cropping up is poorly defined scope. Projects are often defined as failures because what was delivered was what was asked for but not actually what was expected!
Different jargon and vocabulary are often a contributers to this where words can sound the same but mean different things to different people, especially where multi-disciplines are involved, e.g. Business, engineers, IT etc Saving Changes...

Thanks everybody for your valuable inputs. I finally did the presentation and following were the points that I mentioned: -
Interest Levels
Communication
Velocity
“No bad news”
Overtime
Quality vs. Time and Cost
Governance or the lack of it
Resource allocation & diversion
Scope Alteration/ Change
A few others that I highlighted were: -
- People not doing their jobs which they are responsible for
- Workloads: Business obviously wants to take everything they can
- Lack of adherence to work process/ flow
- Funds not properly allocated.
If anybody wants to look at the deck, do let me know and I can post that too.
Thanks again.

Some projects just rely on Qulaity control (testing) to achieve a quality product. Quality has to be planned early in the project and missing this step can lead to project failure. Saving Changes...
