Can MS Project show SPI/CPI for Baseline 1 and greater?

The project I inherited was baselined too soon and Baseline 1 is the real baseline. Is there a way to show CPI/SPI for Baseline 1 in MS Project? Not finding CPI 1 or SPI 1 as options in columns.

Tamie -

Unfortunately, MS Project's earned value calculations are based on the current active baseline and won't calculate EV, BAC, or PV based on the other baselines (1-10).

The only way to do this would be to export the Baseline1 and other key columns to Excel and do the calculations manually.

Tamie - thank you for your question.

Other participants in the discussion - do you have any experience with other project management tools & software that helped you to overcome those MS Project challenges?

My company uses P6. It is more robust that MS Project but also more expensive and requires some formal training once you get into it. P6 also has a separate but linked application for Risks Analysis to conduct Monte Carlo analysis.

What will you lose if you clear the baselines you don't need? Maybe make a copy of the file, clear the irrelevant baselines, and then see if any information needs to be recreated?

Jessica, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience- MS Project has its limitations. Primavera P6 is a more powerful tool for working on complex projects - for instance, the mining sector.

I agree with Aaron. Make a new file. You're managing to the new baseline, not the immature preliminary plan. You can always archive the original baseline as a historical record if you want to look back on it later. That's going to be a lot easier than translating everything in a spreadsheet, and less prone to error.
