Why are "interruptions" considered as attribute in activity duration estimates? Example would be helpful. Thanks.

Lilian,
do not see interruptions in the PMBoK Guide. Where did you read it?

Similar to lags, which happen between activities, there might be time durations within an activity when the activity itself is paused.
Like waiting for paint to dry, an order to be shipped, or allowing for travel to happen.

You could argue that this would grant a split of that activity, but the definition of activities is driven not only by uninteruptedness but more criteria.

Hi Thomas, I got that from one of the PM Challenge questions. So, I thought the term "interruption" could be a PMI jargon, that I had yet to know in relation to activity attribute. Sound like the creator of the question has a specific idea.

Activity attributes may include activity ID, name, and description; WBS ID; predecessor and successor activities and relationships; resource and logistical requirements; constraints; assumptions; location of activity work to be performed; and who is responsible for performing the work. Maybe you read it in other studies different from PMBoK?

An activity should be proceeding to complete without interruption but you may not avoid interruptions in case of holidays dates such as new year dates, so that you should consider this factor during duration estimate. You may split the interrupted activity into more activities to avoid activity interruption.
