Reflecting on the recent post - What are the key success factors that have worked for you as a Project Manager? - could you please share your experience with (or good practices on) developing and mastering soft skills?

Thank you,
Maria

Maria,

Soft Skills are the conduit for reaching out past oneself, allowing one to functionally engage their project world and be more than a “team of one.” We call them “soft” as they are personal and social competencies that emanate from self-awareness.

My Philosophically viewpoint: Soft skills look inward first and then reflect outwards, whereas technical skills are explicitly learned and outwardly quantified.

To answer your question: In my experience and reflection on this subject, one’s “empathetic understanding” is the key to success when it comes to soft skills, as it enhances the value and reach of each one.

Maybe, I think the communications is the most important soft skill. Our first task is to set up a communications system.

Great point Roger, continuing on this topic of communication, how does one become a "better communicator". Does anyone have any courses, books, or advice for this as a PM?
