Good morning everyone, I have just completed the chapter on quality but after doing the practice test I'd like to verify if I understand the concept correctly being transparent I believe I am missing something but am not sure.

How I am understanding it:

Quality management has 2 sub categories within itself those categories being quality assurance and controlling quality

Quality Assurance is focused on prevention and assuring that errors stay out of the process or activity (includes things like training, safety measures) essentially it makes sure the work itself is done correctly with an emphasis on doing tasks correctly the first time using tools like checklists

Controlling Quality has a focus on appraisal and is heavily focused on the inspection and testing of created deliverable keeping errors out of the customers hands and measuring how close we are to requested requirements and standards, Using tools like sampling, ishikawa diagrams, scatter charts, also change request can be updated and implemented at this juncture

Both categories different in nature are still a part of management

Quality planning is planning quality into your project plan example scheduling an inspector at each phase gate

Quality improvement is taking corrective action on errors that have occurred and doing reworks but differ from change requests

Am I understanding this correctly or is my understanding at fault? thank you in advance for your time and honesty.

In other words:
Quality Assurance is with respect to "process" while Quality Control is about "product/deliverable".
Does that helps you?

Yassin: I would say you nailed it completely.

To address Piotr: I do recognize what you are saying from Lean where the goal should be repeatable processes that prevent errors because QC is non-value added. That explanation may confuse some people as QC itself often does involve significant process.

I typically explain it simply as: QA is error prevention, while QC is inspecting errors out.
