I am busy preparing myself for my PMP certification exam, but have a question related to a practice question.
The question is/reads: _____ are used to bring the project into compliance with the Project Management Plan?
To learn from my wrong understanding from the question, do the question indicate that something happened, or does it indicate that preventive action has been made.
Corrective to me means that something happened and must be corrected.
Preventive means for me that you have designed/allowed for something to keep something from happening.
Can someone help me please to understand the question correctly. Has something happen to bring it back, or have preventive action been allowed for?

I know I will not answer your question but let me say this. For more than 10 years I was part of the group that generate the exam questions for all the PMI´s certifications. My role was Quality Assurance SME. This type of questions are not acceptable to be included into the exam. With that said, because I did not participate in the group for the last 3 years, I do not know if the criteria has changed and this type of questions are included today.

Hallo Sergio. Thank you for your response back to me, appreciated.
I am going to leave the question open on the system, to see if I do receive more responses.
I do have another question for you, if you do not mind.
How much do punctuation matter/count for exam questions?

Sergio made a good point.

Based on how the question is worded, I'd agree that corrective action is likely a better response as you are correcting a variance from your PM plan.

When you use actions to bring a project back in compliance with the plans, you normally use corrective actions. When you use actions to prevent similar actions in the future, that’s called preventive action.

Hope this helps.

Thank you to everyone that has responded.
I am glad to see that I am not alone in the interpretation of how the question was asked.

I agree with Kiron. An action used to bring the project into compliance with the Project Management Plan is called corrective action.

Taking a look at the Wikipedia article on Project Management, it almost uses the exact same wording, it says: "In multi-phase projects, the monitoring and control process also provides feedback between project phases, to implement corrective or preventive actions to bring the project into compliance with the project management plan."
