I am about to take the PMP exam and the new PMBok JUST came out 5 days ago! Could someone use the old book? How different are the question or material in the new edition? Is it totally new material, or just different weight given to different section of the test?

Thanks

Hi Alex,

The PMP® exam continues to use the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition as one of the references.

The PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition will be available on 1 August 2021 .When it does publish, it will not prompt an exam change.

We strongly recommend that candidates refer to the current Exam Content Outline for up-to-date information about preparing for certifications. Information about PMI certifications and future changes can be found at pmi.org/certifications.

Thanks Marvin, but it's very very confusing. Amazon had the book listed for March 31... now it's out of stock. So, I have no clue what the heck is the new exam based out of! Even the PMP courses I looked at, all have OUTDATED content.

If it's based on 6th edition, then WHY the exam was changed without 7th edition being available?! PMI really hasn't done a very good job explaining the changes.

PS. Which PMP courses, books are recommended? I am in Canada, but regardless, I assume due to COVID everything's online

Alex -

There's a whole discussion forum dedicated to PMI's certifications (Certification Central) where a few folks have posted their feedback on the new exam.

In addition to Marvin's feedback, I'd recommend reviewing the list of reference books provided by PMI here: https://www.pmi.org/certifications/project...-reference-list

The new exam is not based off any single resource - It is based on sevral resources of which one of them is the PMBOK Sixth edition for now until the new version is releasd in August.

If you are a paid PMI member, you can download the book for free but you can also buy it from PMI e-store, if I am not mistaken.

The new exam was just recently released so limited feedback is availble at the moment and with the new ATP System, most of the course are now offered by Authorized Training Partners. For simulation exams, I find PM PrepCast to be a good resources even for the new exam as they have an updated version.

For PMP exam updates, refer to the following link:

Hope this helps.
