I already have the CAPM, can I use the same project info from that application for the PMP application and just add to it with the new projects I'm doing? I only had half the required hours so I'd hate to have to start at the beginning.
How did you all track your project hours before applying?
as far as I know, the PMP application form is a separate application from the CAPM one so I don't believe there's a way to import that info. However, PMI has simplified the application itself in the last year which should make things easier for you as you don't provide hours of experience but months.

Most folks I've taught will capture the info in an MS Excel spreadsheet.

Hi Kiron,
I am looking for suggestions on how to document my project experiences so that it's well received by the PMI application team. Please advice.
Thanks for your time and consideration

The key is to show that you performed activities across the entire project lifecycle covering the knowledge areas and domains within the PMBOK. The projects need to have sufficient variety - it can't be the same type of project over and over again. And make sure that you use specific action-oriented keywords (e.g. controlling, reporting, engaging) and reference specific PM artifacts (E.g. charter, PM Plan, risk register).
