As the pandemic continues, we have adapted much more to remote work, and technology is an important ally.

Big question. Communication and information is the key to project delivery.

Under normal circumstances communications is a challenge with multiple stakeholders, mostly away from the project office, complex issues, and increasingly fast pace of project progress. People also seem to be busier multi-tasking through matrix organizations.

Remote work resulting from the COVID 19 constraints has made communications even that more difficult.

A tool to deal with this is a fully integrated dashboard providing any and all information when and where required. A participant can instantaneously access and drill down to get the information they need, where they need it and when they need it. It can also be used to up load one's contribution in real time for others to access.

I do not know if they are best tools, but in my actual work place we are using Zoom for communication and Microsoft suit (Teams and others) for collaboration. Just to comment, I am working as remote project manager from more than 20 years ago then pandemic do not change things for me.

Cloud based project management is a perfect solution however safe & secure integrated communication and data storage facility is a must. "Human Being" is the most important and best tool in project management not any particular software.

Any communication and collaboration tools:

Teams (storage and sharing of documents with access to the up-to-date info+chat)
JIRA (follow up on tasks and issues, project management)
Confluence (collaborative Knowledge base)
Slack (communication)
Email (it remains a tool for exchanging on topics and can - more often than not - replace a whole meeting)

and so many more that are similar.

This is definitely a huge topic right now as a result from COVID.

In my own experience, it comes down to the needs of the team to get things done.

Some topics to take into account:

- Formal (reports, dashboards, status Zoom meetings) and informal (chat, email, adhoc Zoom meetings)
- Project management approach (predictive or adaptive?)
- Push and pull tools
- Centralized project management tool (Jira, Trello, etc.)
- Collaboration tools (web based visual boards - such as Miro, Google Jamboards, MS Teams)

I recently read that "a fool with a productive tool is just a more productive fool".

Experiment with demos and free accounts of the tools before investing big - try to identify what would work best with your team and organization.

Good luck!
