Hi,
I took the PMP course more than 5 years ago, but did not manage to take the exams due to some personal reasons. Wondering if anyone could advice if I should retake the course should I wish to take the exams now?

Thanks.

I'd suggest that another prep course would be the way to go given the significant changes in the structure and content of the exam. One way to check whether this is necessary or not would be to take a good quality practice exam (i.e. one you will likely have to pay for) and see how you do. If your scores are above 80, you'd probably be okay using a self-study guide and a number of practice exams to prepare. If your scores aren't great, a prep course might increase your odds of succeeding on your first try.

It depends on how comfortable you are with the material. If you have a lot of experience and the course was reinforcing what you already know, then some practice exams will tell you where specifically you need to study and a refresher course may not be necessary. For example, most professional PMs would have a hard time telling you what process group their current activity fits into.

If much of the information was new to you and you have not practiced it professionally since the course, then you can still take practice exams to find your weaknesses, but a course might do better at leading you through the material at a conceptional level in a more time efficient manner than individual study.

I would recommend taking a short course to refresh and update the content. Many of the PMBOK concepts are updated regularly and fine details on certain aspects require new understanding. There are several ways to do this. There are excellent online resources that you can choose from. The intensity of the courses will vary from simple refresher of concepts to an in-depth preparation. Good luck with your prep and exam.

I recommend you taking a new course to update your knowledge regarding the latest tendencies in Project Management. In addition, try to practice with a good PMP exam simulator, and then, try to take the exam immediately.

Since the PM book has changed its content even the exam will have areas which you have not covered in the earlier course. It will be better if you can retake an updated course to refresh your memory. Otherwise what you can do is to go through the new PM Book thoroughly to prepare for the new exam.
