We all have made mistakes, whether in life or in our professions. Sometimes projects fail, team spirit begins to fade, etc. Other times you may feel that the weight is upon your shoulders and you’re the only one can fix it. These are all feelings we may have experienced during our careers (I know I have:-)). SO – I ask you, if you could go back in time and tell your younger self what to do differently, what would you say?

This type of knowledge sharing would be extremely valuable for our new community members just starting in PM, so I encourage our experienced PMs to share your advice!

We look forward to hearing your stories!!

Kimberly -

Whenever I'm asked this question, I always state that if I could pull a "Bill and Ted" and meet my younger self (or my younger "us's" as Bill and Ted would have said), I'd tell him to focus on people first rather than process and tools.

Great Question. Ive been asked this question a few times during the past and my answer is always: If days go back and I meet my younger self, I'd say to him: Make sure you listen actively and value your team members because TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More !

that is a funny thing,if could back to meet the younger self, i would tell he not to make decision so easy and quickly, especial when you on the angry status. do more preparatory work before to challenge other domain job. strengthen team work.

Nothing. The worst mistake that human beings can make is to evaluate the past with the eyes, the experiences and the circumstances of the present. We must understand that in the past we have made the best possible decisions with the available information taken from the existing environment thanks to our perceptions and conscience. It does not mean do not make the exercise to think about improvement.

I agree with Sergio: our lifetime of decisions have shaped us into who we are. If we were to change something from our past, we would be a different person. Maybe better, maybe not.

Having said that, Kiron already stated the most important lesson I learned. Another one I would give my younger self is to never make a decision or send an email when you are tired. Save it for the next morning, when you are refreshed.

I hate asking for change. They always make a face. It's like asking them to donate a kidney.
