I'm interesting in learning more about PMO certifications from PMO Global Alliance and AIPMO. Are they worth it? Does anyone have experience with these? Feedback? Thanks!

In my personal opinion, after analyzing them because there was an intention in my actual work place to pay for that, it has no sense to obtain a certification related to PMO. But just my personal experience. I was in charge to make the analisys and present it to the top management. The reason is to understand that a PMO is a business unit then all related to it falls inside business administration, not project/program/portfolio management.

I'd echo Sergio's feedback. A PMO is an organizational means to an end and the mandate for a PMO will dictate the services it provides so what would a certification prove?

A better route if you are heading up a PMO might be to apply for a "PMO of the year" award from PMI or your local Chapter.

Thank you, Kiron and Sergio. I'm mainly interested in learning more about starting a PMO at my company and wasn't sure how much knowledge (and credibility) I would gain by becoming certified.

You are welcome. After years doing that, if you are asking me, this type of things are related to business administration and its domain, not project management. Starting a PMO is the same than starting any other business unit: decide where the functions that organization needs to be part of its strategy (project/program/portfolio management functions in this case) must be located. Then, the decision could be: a new business unit needs to be created, and call it PMO (or any other name)? Or those functions will be distributed through existing business unit? On the other side, no matter I have some certifications, I firmly believe that certifications did not give me the knowledge I need for doing my job.

I probably have a different opinion than my fellow colleagues. I found lots of value in the PMO-CP certification offered by the PMOGA and their value ring methodology is great and very comprehensive and will guide you step by step in terms of how to create a new PMO so in my professional opinion, it is definitely worth it given what you are looking for.

Agree with your comments, most organizations looking for PMO experts, Is a certificate will be a direction sign for an expertise or they looking for much more.
Thank you,

Hi All, Is it true that the "PMO-CP" is part of the PMI Certifications Offering? PMOGA claims that but I can not find anything on the PMI website about this here: https://www.pmi.org/certifications/become-...ation-framework

PMOGA never claimed that their credentials are part of PMI Offerings. Their post of yesterday on LinkedIn was related to the fact that PMI added their credentials on this platform (besides many other certificates) so members can add them to their profiles. They added two certificates:

PMO-CP and PMO-CC and you can see them under my Profile Certifications:

PMO Certified Consultant (PMO-CC)
PMO Certified Practitioner (PMO-CP)

Hope this explains.

I've never heard of that credential before, and if it existed I'm sure Rami would have it on his development list :-)

You might want to send a note to Sierra Hampton-Simmons at PMI as "the buck stops at her" as far as certs go...

Kiron Bondale, Do you happen to know who's taken over Sierra role? Noticed that she's left PMI.

@Rami Kaibni I was looking for PMO-CC on the PMI site, but couldn't find any. Currently, the PMO GA website was also being redirected to its registered domain owner (Namecheap). Kind of hitting a dead-end. I probably send a message to Americo to see if he can share any light.
