Hello all. I’m interested in obtaining my PMP certification. I teach engineering management courses at undergraduate and graduate level. Does any of my teaching experience count toward the 3 years management experience required? Does building a management course also count as a project?
Thank you for the help

You might want to check with PMI Customer Service on this question.

I was able to claim PDUs, in the category "Giving back to the profession" for the time I spent preparing a class AND for the first time I presented the materials. I'm not sure how this would work to satisfy experience requirements to qualify to apply for the exam. Maybe, if you were able to demonstrate how you applied project management principles for specific projects as you were teaching... Even then, I'd check with customer service, first.

Teaching is not a project management activity, however, developing courseware can be considered project work so long as it possessed sufficient uniqueness and you did demonstrably apply PM practices from across all five PMBOK process groups.
