I currently hold the CAPM and PMP - my CAPM expires in January. The cost to renew is $60, wondering if anyone has bothered to keep the CAPM after having gotten the PMP, or if you would recommend just letting that expire?

I am from Egypt, and in here its common for people who work in projects to not apply for the CAPM and only apply for the PMP when they are eligible. so I guess it would be a personal preference for you to renew or not.

Jennifer -

There is no point in renewing the CAPM once you have the PMP as it vastly overshadows the benefits of the CAPM.

From a professional point of view, I totally agree with Kiron, however, from a personal perspective, some like to maintain it as it is their first PMI certification and they put time and effort to achieve it. It doesn’t hurt if you can afford the money.

If I personally had it, I would maintain it for personal reasons.

Hope this helps.

I think the PMP is superior to CAPM, thus no real reason to renew it

If you have a PMP, CAPM becomes secondary. If you want to manage money efficiently, you must consider renewing only PMP
