Hello,

I am currently taking PMGT 461 - Global Project Management. I am in need of a project manager who has worked internationally and would be willing to mentor me weekly by answering these questions.

If you would be interested in helping me I would greatly appreciate it.

These are the weekly questions I would need to discuss:
WBS 1:

WBS 1:

Describe your international work experience (what country, how long, what industry, types of projects).

How did you get started in the field of project management?

How has your career progressed?

Are you a PMP® or do you hold any other PM Certification? What is your experience working with PM organizations (PMI®, IMPA®, APM®, etc)?

WBS 2:

Do you have any examples of how politics or the government influenced the project you worked on?
Do you have any examples of how society influenced the project you worked on?
Did you and your family immerse yourselves in the local economy?
WBS 3:

Do you have any examples of how the country’s business practices influenced the project you worked on? Did foreign currency play any factor?
Do you have any examples of how the cultural environment influenced the project you worked on? Did you and/or your family experience culture shock?
What was the hardest part of working in another country? How about the most exciting part?
WBS 4:

Share your draft scorecard. Are these the right things to examine when considering taking on a project in a foreign country? Is there anything missing?
Did language play a factor in project accomplishment?
How about non-verbal communication as a factor to work on the project?
When working with local nationals, what did you learn about people?
WBS 5:

Bring a copy of the PMI Talent Triangle® and IPMA® Eye of Competence. Discuss your mentor’s opinion of PM career advancement and how PM’s advance in his/her organization.
Did the country’s infrastructure play a factor in your project or your life? [Transportation systems (roads, rail, air); power grid; communication (Internet, cell phone coverage)].
Do you have any examples of how ethics or integrity affected you as the project manager?
Were you ever in a situation where conflicting values forced tough decisions?
WBS 6:

Share your completed scorecard. Are these the right things to examine when considering taking on a project in a foreign country? Is there anything missing?
Could this tool have benefited you personally or would it benefit your organization?
Thinking about living and working in a foreign country, did it change your (and/or your family’s) outlook on life?
WBS 7:

Did you receive any training about working in a foreign country before you went?
Did you take your family? If so, how was that experience?
Looking back, what would you have done differently to prepare yourself (and your family) for that assignment?
WBS 8:

What advice would he/she give to someone considering an international PM assignment?
Share your draft training manual. Ask the mentor to comment on it (topics, format, practicality, and usefulness to an individual and the organization).
Provide the survey link and ask your mentor to fill it out based on your mentoring sessions
WBS 9:

Provide your mentor a thank you note.
