Hi,

I am working on a construction project and need to use photos to show the progress of the week. I nomally use PowerPoint to put all all the photos together. With this power point, it takes me lot of time to edit and embed the photos into the powerpoint file.

Could you please advice if there are any better tool that can be use to create the pictorial reports?

Your comments will be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

I have just bought Snagit (from Techsmith) which I find very good for editing photos. It is easier to use that PhotoShop for simple things. I would not recommend PhotoShop for what you suggest, but Snagit is good. You can save the images as picture files, like .gif or .jpg.

One thing to consider though is what application the people receiving the report will use to look at the photos. If they only have PowerPoint you may be better off sticking with that. You could try taking the photos in a lower resolution which would probably make them easier to manipulate as it would require lower processing power.

Something fast and extremely simple ( you can also optionally zoom and pan and add music, but not required), is a free tool from MSFT called Photo Story 3. You can have the pictures timed, or just step through them. Can also do some preliminary editing if need be. But can put a photo presentation together in under ten minutes very easily.

You don't say how you present the photo combinations, but if you present them printed or as static slides, then you will find IrfanView quick and easy - and faster than the 5 minutes suggested for Photo Story 3!

IrfanView is freeware and its thumbnail feature offers contact sheets of images. You specify the number of images in each row and the number of columns, then print or save the result as an image. And it will save your settings for later re-use and allow you to generate multiple pages as well (if all your images won't fit on a single printed page).

Fast way to get a lot of pictures into Powerpoint. Using IRFANVIEW's batching feature can reduce the size of the pictures before you make the powerpoint presentation.
