The PMPBOK 7th edition concept is different than previous versions, the notion of management knowledge area doesn't exist. A new concept appears is the notion of project performance domain.
Therefore, I invite all interested members to share their points view and observations about the new version. Saving Changes...

Not my favorite version, however, I am open to change and there is lots of value in this new version but I think it will take people some time to get a grasp over the new domains of the PMBOK7th Edition which, in my opinion, should be read in parallel with the PMBOK 6th edition because unlike other versions of the PMBOK, the 7th edition doesn't supersede the 6th but complements it. That is what I understood.
The basics of the PMBOK 6th edition will always be a necessity in terms of knowledge and experience which is process, phase and knowledge area based while the PMBOK 7th edition moves to a more people and business centric view in addition to the principles so

Hello Rami;
Thanks for sharing your Point view with us.
As a practitioner, your opinion makes sens, we Can suppose that we have two references and work with both of them to update our own standard. But in the other Side, and as is used to be in the past, each New Pmpbok version replace all the previous versions, so I don't know how things will be with two different and sometimes contradictory concepts.
I agree with Rami, we should use the 7th edition of PMBOK Guide conjunctly with the 6th edition... Saving Changes...

I am not sure that was the intention of PMI to use them together. Maybe, but love for PMI to weigh in. They have in their long history of developing PMBOK's not tied different PMBOK's together as you are describing. Eventually, they won't sell the 6th edition, so that concept of using together won't be possible. Good thoughts, just a bit confusing.. :)

In the end, mid-term, there can be only one valid edition, only one ANSI standard.
Agree, short-term people preparing for the PMP have to know both.
Being complimentary is not the best way forward if you need not read 750 pages but 750+250 pages. And then there are the contradictions between ed6 and 7, e.g. in the definitions of complexity and other concepts. Not avoidable if you change basics.

Hello Thomas,
I appreciate your participation in the discussion. I agree with you, in the short terme futur certified project managers who have to pass the exam need to know the both versions. But as a practitioners what WE should do to be aligned with the New PMI standard. Should we stop using the 47process, but as practitioner I find some of them very useful in my daily tasks.

Pros
Look - very friendly look and size
Level of detail - better tailored size
Models and methods - some really interesting ones there
The principles are a good start to greater things. #6 is one of my favorites.
Value for systems delivery - nicely coined and makes learners and professionals pay attention to OPM.
Cons
Based on customer/stakeholder involvement, PMI gets a 25%, an F. They failed on many levels in my opinion to be as inclusive as possible. Instead of improving, they degraded. For the first time in almost over 3 decades, many of us were silenced from giving our final opinions and observations despite the history of multiple errors USERS find after the fact. Very sad.
The domains are a big distraction and a needless change. They do not replace process groups or knowledge areas in my perspective. Instead, they muddy the waters. I like the compacted level of attention and detail though but the arrangement offers no value to me as a practitioner or coach.
- Two sets of numberings for 1 publication! Very confusing and misleading. There are well over 300+ pages but people read this as 270.
- Now PMP students are mega confused about what and how to study. They should have integrated the content outline a bit more along with the ATP study material. Now it is all over the place! Saving Changes...

I believe PMI are taking a more adaptive Agile approach this time unlike the previous versions even with the exam itself.
On the other hand, the concepts are not contradictory in both at all. They do look at things from different angles but they certainly complement each other. Not sure where you have noticed contradictory concepts ?
