Can someone help me understand why there is a new 5-day delay? The video from PMI says it is because there are people taking the tests for others, but I am not sure how waiting five days to score the exam will prove whether or not the actual candidate sat for the exam or not.
Yes, I am sure they will run some kind of algorithm to see if the test results are similar to other test results to try to identify if the same person took both, but since questions are not the same for every person I am not sure how this will help or even how it will be possible.
Perhaps a better way would be to use an online identify verification system like ID.me. It is good enough for the IRS, Social Security Administration, etc. to use it to identify people and the service is free for an individual to set up and it requires a selfie picture as well as pictures/scans from your documents (like your drivers license) and can compare them to validate it is you. I would assume that it includes technology to detect if multiple people register there with the same photo.

I think they use a third party to analyze the exam pattern, time to answer, photos and so on.

As mentioned before the delay was shorten to 48 hours meanwhile; this time is needed to conduct deep analytics to identify possible fraud.

Took online exam last year. Need to make appointment and go to an exam center to take test in one of their computers. You will know the result status immediately after you completed the exam. Literally next screen after you click completed exam and the receptionist will print you a slip of your exam status. But details of exam, which area you score better etc will take up to 5 days before being published in PMI system together with the PMP digital certificates. hope this helps

Ng, as far as I know, very recently PMI changed the results regulations in that candidates will get their final results up to 5 business days after they complete their exam whether it is online or in-person. Was this not the case with you?

As mentioned before that time frame again has changed and now was shortened to 48 hours after exam submission; resource:

What does pass/fail actually mean? I just received this message as I completed my PMP exam.

There should be a Pass or Fail note on the top of the screen to indicate that you did pass or failed the exam. PMI now gives preliminary results after completing the exam and the final results will be sent to you within 5 business days.

I agree with the explanation given by Rami Kaibni. Pass or Fail gives you preliminary information about the result of the exam. Detailed result is provided within 5 business days.

Same as Kemoy McIntyre. I passed exam today and didn’t get instant result. Just a message saying I will receive result in 48 hours.

It was literally a pass/fail message followed by stating I will receive an email within 48hrs.
