Could you please share me definitions of links of project roles. I am especially interested in 3 of them:
a) project sponsor
b) business owner
c) project manager
usually there are quite many versions/appoaches, and so I used as well different ones in my projects so far, or maybe even formally announced but never lived 100%.
I have intention to form a good foundation for well structured project management so would like to start with these roles
.. and so engage business more into IT projects :) Saving Changes...
There are no standard descriptions for these roles as they vary company to company and between industries, but I'd suggest starting with PMI's Lexicon of PM terms, the PMBOK Guide and their Competency Development Framework.

Thank you Kiron, I thought about it, and this conversation confirms the PMBOK guide to be a starting point,
I just opened 6th edition of PMBOK but cannot find that part/chapter. I see the description of IT Project Manager but I cannot find the other roles. Could you give me a hint where to look for?
Role of these positions is depend on organizations, which may differ. in organization i was working the sponsor was USAID who was funding the project and responsible for the project, project owner was DABS the final user and PM was hired by contractor. Saving Changes...

What is important is how these roles are defined (and accepted by the actors) in the Project Charter. They may differ from project to project.

that is to me very applicable - I work in mid size company ~ 250 employees within European site so I cannot use too many roles or set to long list of responsibilities

The PMI Lexicon document should definitely cover sponsor, however business owner is not a standard PM term so I'm not surprised that isn't there.
