I just completed the Green Belt program through the Air Force. I had thought it would provide me with certification as well. However, I was told that I needed to complete a project for certification. I had thought that a project was only required for Black Belt and above? So do I complete Green Belt Certification with a project or just move towards Black Belt and complete that project? Mike, are you looking to obtain an AF Black Belt? Reach out to your wing CPI officer, usually in the manpower office and they can help get you moving forward.

I have not made that decision yet. I was leaning towards going through a school rather than the AF as I'm not sure I can finish it before I retire. I earned my Green Belt certificate through the AF but didn't get a certification as they require a project. Are AF green/black belts different from others?

There are some differences between what we do in the AF and the industry outside the gate. As with everything, there are transferables that you will benefit from, but everyone I know who transitioned to civilian CPI had some training outside of the AF program. That said, it never hurts to have that certification on your resume and a year is plenty of time to complete it.

Usually both GB and BBs require a report out of a project except the scope and complexity of work for a GB will be less. A BB would support you for a GB project and an MBB would support you for a BB project.
Green and Black Belts typically have to complete a project in order to pass. A Green or Black Belt holder would be expected to consult on and lead improvement projects.
When I did my Lean Black Belt at the University of Limerick, we were tasked with achieving at least €75K (ideally six figures) in any combination of hard and soft savings. A Green Belt qualification project should aim to save between €15k-50k. Saving Changes...
As far as I know Mike, Green and Black Belts (for lean or SS) do need a project to get certified. Yellow belts (belt under Green Belts), however, do not need a project to get certified.
Hope this helps,
Cian.

Does anyone know if the Air Force Orange/Green/Black Belt courses can count towards PDU's? Thanks.

At least a portion of the hours spent should, but if the Air Force training academy hasn't defined the total eligible hours and the breakdown across the three legs of the PMI Talent Triangle then you would need to do that yourself. One piece of advice in that case would be to be conservative regarding the portion of hours you deem to be eligible.
