Recently, we have formed a Construction CoP here at our local PMI chapter (Greater Raleigh/Durham, NC) & I am looking for speakers for upcoming events in our local chapter, but I haven't had much luck so far. Has anyone in the community been down this road? Would you be willing to impart some wisdom on what worked for you? Does anyone here have any advice on where to look?

Have there been any major construction projects in the last few years, in your area, that you can find the PMs for? It's been a few years, but we've had a few luncheons on construction project management - major freeway and highway changes, and a large bridge project involving a crane with a counterweight that was over one million pounds.

While working at a previous employer, I met with the PM over a large hospital renovation with multiple additions. The amount of construction knowledge he was required to have was impressive.

If the PMs over these types of projects, in your areas, aren't chapter members, try contacting local/nearby large construction companies or your local department of transportation, or put out a call for papers - PMI national or your regional reps might be able to help with the call for papers or get you access to national speakers.

The construction industry is massively under-represented in our local chapter. I'm hoping to start to change that with this CoP.

PMI used to have a speakers clearinghouse listing which folks (like myself) could have themselves added to and which Chapters could access. I still get contacted by Chapters who seem to have access to this resource so you might want to contact your PMI region liaison to find out where that resource is currently located...

Scheduling basics, importance of communication in project management, risk management, quality (control & assurance), closing projects (do's & dont's) were some of the more requested topics.
