I am just reaching out to get any feedback on the Agile Hybrid Project Pro (AHPP) certification. What are some thoughts of the content offered by PMI that you learn on your own? Is this a certification that is well recognized? It seems like it is going along with the current trends of the industry and the latest PMBOK. Thanks in advance everyone!

Hi all,

So I told everyone I would keep them posted on the outcome of my exam once I took it. I am happy to say that I passed on my first attempt. Here is how I went about it to hopefully help others pass.

1. Completed the provided training about 6 months ago, and did read the articles under the resources for each module. They were not the greatest of articles, and some of them were fairly old as I stated in my previous posts. However, I did get through them all.
2. I did go through the Agile Practice Guide which for PMI members is free and can be found here:
https://www.pmi.org/pmbok-guide-standards/practice-guides/agile
3. Went back to the training module two weeks ago and went through each module again. This time just focused on the core information only, and no resource articles. I completed a couple modules a day.
4. I never passed the overall quiz at the end of the training with more than 50% from what I could tell. But I didn't let that persuade me to not take the exam. It shouldn't let you either, besides you already paid for it.
5. For the exam you have to remember that the title of this is Agile-Hybrid so you will need to be able to understand the concepts, of Agile, Waterfall\Traditional, and then the Hybrid scenario. So, be sure to really read the question fully.
6. Also in between studying, I completed the FREE PMI Agile and Waterfall concepts which I think gives you a good starting point for this micro-credential even if Agile and Waterfall are not new to you.

Overall now that I look back at it all, I think PMI did a good job putting this credential together. The information provided really made me think about the different styles of managing a project.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for that detail - very helpful. Can you tell me where to locate the "FREE PMI Agile and Waterfall concepts" info you mentioned in your post? My search came up without a good hit. Thanks!

I have also managed to pass within second attempt!!! 😎 Funny enough, I didn’t spend any time to prepare prior to re-take exam. I guess sometimes having a break is more beneficial that being tired from repetition. 🤭 That inspired me to re-apply for PMP exam.

I personally liked the course and highly recommend it. It is very well structured and comprehensive - Another reason it does add value is the fact that a large percentage of the professionals these days work in a Hybrid Environment.

PMI came up with those specialized micro-credentials in order to help professionals sharpen their skills and knowledge in certain areas.

Just to be clear, this is not a certification, it is a micro-credential. Below is some further info:

•Course Fees = $175 Members / $200 Non-Members
•10 Hours (On Average) Self-Paced Course
•75 Min Online Exam, Un-Proctored, Course-Based
•Upon completion of the course, you earn 13 PDUs
•Upon completion of the exam, you earn Micro-Credential + Digital Badge
•No Expiration, No Renewal

The have a 20% Discount offer until end of December - I will send you the link and code via a message.

Hope this helps.

I am trying to understand more if this certification will add value in today's corporate world. I am a PMP and CSM certified professional. Is this required? Many haven't even heard about this course.

Bharathi,

Whether it is required or not that is all dependent on your career goals and it will be as valuable to the corporate world as much you actually apply it as a professional. Long story short, this will add knowledge to you as a professional and you can spread its value by applying what you've learned.

I just purchased the PMI-ACP Exam Prep Book. I think at this point, I'll just use it as a reference. I simply don't have the years experience in I.T./SDLC that becoming certified ACP will make much of a difference as I come from the non-I.T. companies. I like Rami's description of 'adaptive-waterfall' instead for those not in the I.T. industry. Any comments are welcomed. I'm focusing my time for April on passing the ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt in May. Maybe I'll retake the AHPP afterwards using the ACP Book as reference.
Since I don't know your career goals, take this with a grain of salt. Given that you are pursuing 6Sigma certification, You might be better served going after Value Stream Management and Disciplined Agile credentials than the AHPP. There is a VSM micro-credential and, after you take the DASSM, you can take the DAVSC class. It emphasizes value streams, but takes a different approach than 6Sigma that I feel is complimentary and seems easier to use when working with non-manufacturing groups, like marketing and IT (where I'm using it).

Taking the micro-credential class, first, seems like it would be a good way to get an introduction to DA value streams to see if they meet your needs without the cost of the full DA credential classes.
