Today, I was looking at the job board for a teaching position in colleges related to PMP.

Here is one of the requirements
Doctoral degree or Master's degree required (with 18 graduate hours in Project Management/the subject being taught for undergraduate teaching.
PMP Certification or equivalent.

so far I have not seen a professional doctorate degree just for PMP. we do have PMI-GAC Masters in PMP some of us already have Master and PMP cert. I am hoping one-day PMI will make The PMI-Doctorate (PMP-D) degree program.

looking at other post almost all requires MBA.

So far there are no direct course opportunities to obtain and teach PMP. Everything seems limited opportunity.

I do like how the DASM DASSM and DAC is set up to give opportunities to teach the course,

Not sure I fully understand your concern here but PMP is a PMI credential that can be taught by anyone who is a PMP and who is a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP). You don't need to have a masters degree or equivalent in order to teach PMP.

The same criteria that applies to DASM and DASSM, does apply to PMP.

PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP) requires

Your Dun & Bradstreet D‑U‑N‑S® Number, Value-Added Tax (VAT) Number, or Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN)
(PMI check list)
To obtain the requirement above it requires you to open LLC/LLP or Corporations business license.
cost is about 5 thousand dollars to open LLC to Corporation.
after obtaining the TIN number then you can file for a private school license mandatory in my state.
LPC school application with candidacy application, total $10,000 ($5,000 for licensure and $5,000 for candidacy).
you must also show that Evidence that you’ve been in business for a minimum of 3 years (PMI checklist ).
now we can join the PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP) with annual fees of $10,000 a year.

Most universities or colleges required the least master's degree to teach college-level courses. That is regulated by the Higher education department. one of the requirements is that you are a subject matter expert. the least minimum requirement is 18 graduate courses in the subject matter. In this case, MBA meets the requirement. I am sure they are hiring candidates with master's project management but they normally fall under the business management department. Every single Ph.D. professor university can hire only one or two master-level educators. (forgot the ratio sorry)

Due to regulation by the Higher education department. university and colleges can only accept a certain amount of students based on the ratio of Doctorate professor to student. for example, one Doctorate professor can teach and accept 10 s graduate students 1 to 10 ratio. So they hire PHD business management or DBA to meet the requirement.

If you know of any other pathway please let me know.

James -

if your main objective is to teach PMP prep courses, your best bet is to contact the PMI ATPs within your area to see if they are hiring. They will likely be looking for someone that has significant depth and breadth of PM experience and has previously mentored PMP candidates to help them pass the exam.

Given that the PMP certification and exam are constantly evolving, I can't imagine a college or university could actually come up with a PMP doctorate that would not require constant refitting. Focus on project management rather than the certification.
