It is not the matter of PMP Certificate ; you need also to practice PM activities , my advise to start as Project Engineer supporting PM activities , once you got the experience you can link it with the knowledge you gain.

I agree with everyone so far. I want to add that you may already have PM experience and don't even know it or didn't realize it. During my courses for the CAPM, we had a discussion whereby we found that administrative staff is sometimes doing part of project work but was never told that the work they were doing was indeed part of a project. I suggest you really dive into your experience and relate it to Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring/Controlling, and Closing. You may find that you were actually doing some of the many processes as your regular assignments and wasn't told that you were indeed working on a project. You should look at your past work experience with the PM eye and pull out those tasks that relate and reposition your resume style to meet it. Also, Indeed.com has PMP test you can take to go along with your resume to make you stand out for positions as well. I hope this helps.

Given the volume of applicants for most posted roles, unless you happen to match the needs of the hiring manager or recruiter perfectly, getting a warm introduction (i.e. having someone the recruiter or hiring manager knows and trusts put your resume in front of them) is going to be a lot more effective than a cold one.

The majority of the contract or full-time roles I landed over my career in PM were thanks to the gracious support of someone within my network.

So that is a yes - it can be difficult to land a PM role without a friend, family member, or network on the inside?
