Suhail -

One of the key value propositions of the skill set is the ability to distill conceptual ideas and unstated needs and wants into clear business objectives and requirements to increase the likelihood that a delivery team hits the mark.

Thank you dear Kiron. What I can understand a Business Analyst has to imbibe all new concepts for each new Product or Project for making it worth revenue earner . What would be his /her equation with the Subject Matter Expert for the project/Product? The job of a BA seems to involve a lot of effort and may need to be provided a sizeable remuneration?

The BA would work very closely with the SMEs and in a product management-centric model, the BA would be or would work closely with the product owner.

A great BA is worth their weight in gold but there are very few truly great BAs...

Business Analyst is the role that will make your dreams come true. What is needed for that is well defined into the BABOK and the PMI´s Practical Guide for Business Analysis. Just to remember something obvious the Business Analyst is a role then it can be performed for people with all needed to perform it.
Thank you dear Sergio for the response which seems quite helpful.

@Sunhail, I worked on that domain as business analyst. Mainly in two projects: the construction of a whole neighborhood with some special characteristics and the construction of one of the first smart buildings in the world, both working with Cesar Pelli which was "the brain" behind. The second involves to sell the idea to investors and to sell the building to customers. So, I worked creating procedures for selling the building and training presales and sellers. But in both, along the construction process what I worked is in integrating the multiple teams in creating the solution starting from taking requirements from customers (some of them unknown customer so I worked on creating procedures to do that), in compiling and integrating requirements to facilitating mock creation and validation, on facilitating the creation of blueprints for all components, etc, etc. But, just to remember, business analist is a role then you can argue that architect or engineer can perform the role and I could agree with that. The point because some people hired me to work as business analyst in construction project was because I helped them to put focus in things that really matters for their role. Just to try with an example I was like a coach for a professional tennis player: the professional tennis player focus is just play and the coach is all things to facilitate that with an add, which is the tennis coach can make visible any risk or deintegration.
BA role is appealing and quite pivotal then but at the same time absorbing one. I am planning to adapt this role with a 30 year plus contribution to construction industry at various levels including Project Management and Technical functions. how can I move towards improvement and refinement for taking up BA Role as a service provider/Consultant. What would be the prudent initial steps to begin with?

Well, take into account English not is my first language, then I understood you are asking about business analyst as service provider. I mean, you are asking about working on service domain. So, I was there. In fact, I was part of the "genesis" of business analysis because I worked in one of the four companies which "invented" it and all companies belongs to services domain. I am saying this because initially business analyst role was born in that domain. Then, the key idea is what I posted in my first comment: BA is the role that will make your dreams come true. And that is mainly in service domain where as you know it is difficult "to sell" something that is not tangible (and you as BA has to make it tangible). So, you will find the answers inside the IIBA definitions then taken by the PMI. Go for them and you will find the answers.

Thank you ,Dear Rami.Does this indicate that all of such activity needs to be taken up by Business Analyst only pre-construction stage and incorporate the final list in Project Plan I. ?And then remain involved through project life cycle? I mean is a BUSINESS ANALYST a permanant entity at a Project.
Suhail

Business Analysis doesn’t start and end at the outset of the project. It is a continuous process that takes place throughout the project starting from pre-project setup until handing over.

Throughout the project, the BA keeps validating requirements, eliciting new requirements, work on continuous improvements and so on.

On small projects, PM can play both roles but on large projects, BAs are a separate permanent role either as part of the project or as part of the PMO.
